Phoebe Wu is a freelance pianist based in Chicago. She is dedicated to bringing new works to life through collaborations with composers, musicians, dancers, choreographers, and performance artists. Her playing is celebrated as nuanced and versatile, effortlessly drawing out rich textures in both contemporary and traditional classical music.
As a soloist, Phoebe creates concert experiences featuring a variety of intriguing and inviting music. Her playing and programming foster a welcoming environment designed to connect with listeners on a fundamental human level. She frequently performs with contemporary chamber ensembles including New Music Detroit, Khemia Ensemble, and ÆPEX Contemporary Performance. Phoebe has premiered works by Fjóla Evans and Viet Cuong, and worked with composers Jennifer Higdon, Evan Ware, and Carlos Simon.
An active educator, Phoebe is co-founder and piano teacher at Chicago Piano & Drums in the Avondale neighborhood. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. When not performing or teaching she can be found woodworking, tap dancing, and hiking.
